Some game pitches need a paragraph of explanation. PIG IRON needs about four words: a pig in a mech. That alone had my attention, and the details only get stranger from there.
PIG IRON is a mech combat FPS (first-person shooter) with a filthy, grimy look and a premise that is part horror and part dark joke. It is currently on Kickstarter, the crowdfunding platform where developers ask players to back a project before it is finished. To help make the case, there is a free demo for Windows PCs.
Pork Versus Meat
The pilot is a bioengineered pig, strapped into a hulking war machine. Its mission is grim. A batch of other bioengineered creatures, which the game calls Bioengineered Meat Organisms, has escaped containment. The pig's job is to wipe them out.
Durga: The Lionhearted wants to drop you into an ancient Indian forest with very little besides courage and a handful of herbs. A beta is now taking sign-ups, and judging by the pitch, this one leans hard into myth, atmosphere and choices that stick.
Before going further, a confession: I have a soft spot for games that build their worlds out of folklore that does not get much screen time. Most fantasy RPGs still pull from the same well of dragons, elves and vaguely European castles. A story-driven adventure rooted in Indian mythology is a welcome change of scenery.
Some games want you to sprint. Invisum Piscium 嫌魚 wants you to slow down, keep your ears open and maybe eavesdrop a little. A beta demo is now available on Steam, and it's aimed squarely at players who'd rather wander than race.
The pitch is simple and a bit strange. This is an exploration game built around atmosphere. You walk, you listen, and you drift in and out of conversations that only ever give you part of the picture. The world feels familiar, but the game makes it clear you'll never fully understand it. That's sort of the point.
Some shooters want you to slide, double-jump and respawn every eight seconds. Project Confrontation is not one of those shooters. It's a tactical third-person multiplayer game that wants to bring back the tense, slow-burn feeling of old-school squad combat. And it now has an open beta you can sign up for.
The pitch is simple. Stay alert, play carefully and work with your team. Mess up, and you'll probably be watching the rest of the round from the sidelines.
Industrial Mazes and Open Sand
The battlefields cover two very different moods. On one side, there are rough industrial complexes, which suggests tight spaces, hard cover and a lot of corners to check. On the other, there are harsh desert maps, where open ground likely makes every step out of cover feel like a gamble.
