Danu: Rise of the Templars Beta Sign-Ups Open for MMORPG

Danu: Rise of the Templars wants to be a lot of things at once. It is pitched as an open-world MMORPG and a co-op action RPG, all set in a medieval fantasy world built around the legends of the Knights Templar. A playtest is now taking sign-ups, so anyone curious about a Templar-flavoured online adventure can put their name down.

There is a lot going on in this one, so let's break it down.

Knights, Legends and an Alternate History

The Knights Templar have long been a favourite for storytellers. The medieval military order is surrounded by myths about secret treasures and hidden knowledge, which makes it perfect material for a fantasy game. Danu leans into that by building an alternate history around the order.

You don't just wander the world as a free agent. You serve either the Templar Order or the Inquisition, and the game is described as being built on cooperation and reputation. That suggests your standing with these factions matters, and that working with other players is meant to be more than a side option.

I like this angle. A lot of fantasy MMOs invent their lore from scratch, and some of it blurs together after a while. Taking real-world legends and twisting them gives Danu a hook that is easy to understand at a glance.

Forests, Ruins and Things Underground

The world itself is open, and the list of places to explore covers the classic fantasy checklist. Forests, castles, ruins and underground chambers are all on the menu. Dynamic weather and a day-night cycle are part of the package too, which should help those locations feel a little more alive.

You can explore solo or bring friends along. That flexibility matters, especially for players who like the idea of a big online world but don't always have a group ready to go. If you've been following the co-op RPG scene, Danu sits alongside projects like the Norse-themed Chosen by Odin beta in giving players the option to team up.

A Very Mixed Class Lineup

The class list is where Danu gets a bit wild. You can play as a:

  • Templar Knight
  • Viking Berserker
  • Druid
  • Inquisitor
  • Morgan Le Fay

Templar Knight and Inquisitor fit neatly into the faction setup. The Viking Berserker and the Druid pull from very different traditions. And Morgan Le Fay, the enchantress from Arthurian legend, being a playable class is not something I expected to see on my list this week.

It is an odd mix on paper, but it does give players a clear sense of the fantasy each class offers. Whether these classes play as differently as their names suggest is something only the playtest can show.

Raising Your Own Dragon

Here is the part that will probably grab the most attention. Danu lets you raise dragons from eggs. There are three types - Fire, Ice and Water - and once grown, they become flying mounts.

These dragons aren't just for sightseeing. They are tied into aerial PvP, so player-versus-player fights can take to the skies. Raising a pet from an egg into a mount you actually fight on is a satisfying loop if it's done well, and it gives players a long-term goal beyond simply levelling up.

Raids, Guilds and Village Life

On the group side, there are raids against powerful bosses, with rare loot as the reward. That is standard MMO territory, but it's a big part of what keeps these games going.

The guild system sounds more interesting. Guilds can build villages, and players can own homes. Guilds can also run stables, forges and mills. That gives the game a quieter, community-building side next to all the dragon battles and boss fights. For players who enjoy settling in and making a place feel like their own, that could be a real draw.

How to Join the Playtest

Signing up is simple. Head to the Danu beta sign-up page and click the "Request Access" button. That's it. As with most playtests, requesting access doesn't automatically mean you're in right away, but it does put you in line.

If you're collecting beta invites this season, it's worth checking out other open calls too, like the mythology-driven Durga: The Lionhearted sign-ups.

Our Take

Danu: Rise of the Templars is ambitious. Open-world exploration, faction reputation, five distinct classes, dragon breeding, aerial PvP, raids and guild-built villages is a long feature list for any project. That ambition is exciting, but it also raises the obvious question: how much of it will be in place and working smoothly during the playtest?

The online RPG space is crowded, and games in this genre often live or die by how well their systems fit together over time. The reputation and cooperation focus suggests Danu wants players to build relationships rather than just grind alone. That is a promising idea, but it depends heavily on having enough people around to make it work.

It is worth watching how the dragon mounts and aerial PvP feel in practice, since those seem to be the standout features. The guild village system is also one to keep an eye on, as it could give Danu a cozier identity than its Templar theme first suggests. For now, the playtest is the best way to find out whether the pieces come together.
